Haskell's Beach

We finally discovered a secret local beach only 5 minutes away from us. We have heard of Haskell's beach, but never went there until now. It's our new favorite! It's not crowded, easy to get to, clean bathrooms, and plenty of parking. We had a great time just walking the beach. Owen got tired by the end and made me carry him all the way back. He is SO heavy!! It's a good post pregnancy work out at least! : )

I taught Owen all about popping the seaweed pockets on the beach with his feet.

Emily

Today we had a professional photographer, Colleen Riley, come and take some family photos. Since I am usually the one taking the pictures I rarely get to be in them, so it was a nice treat to get all of us in the same picture! We are waiting to get all the images later this week, but here is the link to the photographer's blog: http://www.colleen-riley.blogspot.com/ for a sneak peek : )

The two pictures above I took with my camera today when I had a moment to take a few of Emily while Colleen was trying to capture Owen. It was a fun, yet exhausting day for all of us. I am excited to see the final pictures later this week. I will post my favorites soon!

By the way, Emily had her 6 week check up this week and she has gained 3 1/2 lbs and grown 3 inches since birth!!! She is very healthy and growing right before our eyes!

"Funny Videos"

So a few weeks ago I started a new family tradition of watching America's Funniest Videos while eating dinner on TV trays in the living room. Owen thinks this is the greatest thing EVER! Every single day since we started this he has asked if he can watch "funny videos" and eat on TV trays. It's all he could talk about today. He told every stranger (including one homeless man) he came across today that he was "going to watch funny videos, put on his pajamas and eat on TV trays." When the show finally came on, he laughed hysterically and clapped his hands at the ones that he really thought was funny! I love Sunday nights : )

One Month Old!

Emily is now almost 6 weeks old. She has started to smile and coo which makes me smile from ear to ear when I see it. She LOVES her older brother and is very entertained by his voice. She is a pretty good sleeper so far. She loves to be held. Her face is filling out and her beautiful hair is getting longer. She loves black and white pictures, bath time, and fresh diapers. : )

This one is blurry, but I love the smile : )

Swim Lessons

This week we decided to put Owen in swim lessons for the first time since he was only a few months old. He loves the pool and has no fear in the water with us. The no fear is what puts the fear into me, hence the swim lessons. The program consists of lessons 5 days a week for 2 straight weeks. It was a great opportunity until he decided he wanted nothing to do with it. You can lead a toddler to water, but you can't make him swim.... isn't that how it goes?

We arrived a few minutes late for his half hour lesson. Once we arrived, we started off with a complete melt down because Owen did not want to take off his diaper to get into the pool (never have had this problem before). Potty training has been a bit of a (power) struggle lately. After about 15 minutes, we managed to talk him into taking it off and getting in the water. Once he got in, he turned around and got out. Sigh. Once back in, he then happily went with the instructor and kicked and "scooped" (paddled).

Then it was time to go underwater....his scream could be heard for miles! The life guard and instructor were laughing, and I was about 10 shades of red, embarrassed that my son just did this in public. Here he is telling her "No, I not go underwater!"

Tears after the screaming dunk under water : (

Needless to say, he did not want to go the next day and we didn't want to fight the battle, so maybe next summer we'll try it again!

We decided to treat him to a visit to the pier afterwards before heading home for lunch.
